
Piatra Craiului National Park
The Piatra Craiului National Park is a corner of heaven located in the Southern Carpathians, which includes the Piatra Craiului Mountains Ridge and adjacent inter-mountainous, Rucăr-Bran and Rucăr-Zărnești corridors.
Piatra Craiului National Park extends across the counties of Brașov and Argeș counties, including areas belonging to Zărnești, Moeciu (Măgura and Peștera villages), Bran, Rucăr and Dâmbovicioara.
Piatra Craiului National Park lies between the coordinates of 450 22 ‘1.73’ ‘and 450 34’ 49.55 ” north latitude and 250 08 ‘51.61’ ‘and 250 21’ 57.21 ” east longitude. Piatra Craiului National Park has a total area of 14773 ha of which 7806 hectares are located in Brașov county and 6967 hectares are located in Argeș county.
Inside the park is an area provided with strict protection, with an area of 6053.8 ha (Brașov 2619ha, Argeș 3434.8ha). The area with strict protection also includes 4 other karst areas, namely the Zarnesti Gorge (Zărneștilor Keys) located in Brașov County and Dâmbovicioara Gorge, Brusturet Gorge and Dâmboviței Gorge, located in Argeș County, as well as a nature reserve, (Bats’ Cave) totaling 1.5 ha. Within the area with strict protection is an area where grazing is prohibited of 515.5 ha.
The integral protection area covers 104.6 ha. The rest of the surface constitutes the area of sustainable conservation (6835.2 ha), respectively alongside the area of sustainable development (1765.4 ha).
The village of Măgura is located in the heart of Piatra Craiului National Park, just a few kilometers from Zărnești, Moieciu and Bran. It is located at an altitude of 1,000 meters.
Casa Dobre Guesthouse is in the center of the village, from which you can easily choose any tourist route. We can recommend lesser known routes and tourist objectives.
